HTC Desire 828 dual sim
Among the first HTC good smartphones to be released into the market was the HTC Desire 828. It is one smartphone that has been in the market longer than many others. Since November 2015 this phone has been in the market and has survived all the evolution and new smartphones produced. It is still holding up well and is a player in the market still. It caught my attention so I decided to do a review of it 2 years later (it is 2017 at time of review) to see what is the secret behind its survival in this very competitive smartphone era.
Design and build
HTC still continues with its good build and design quality of smartphones with the Desire 828. It has a design that I personally loved and will try describe, although words my wording may not be right so be sure to check the link attached at the end of this review. The face of this phone features a selfie camera, HTC branding and speakers on the upper and bottom bezel. On the back is a clean finish the camera, LED flash and HTC branding. Simple and clean. The best part about this display though is its curviness that makes it sit in the hand very comfortably and adds to it a smooth looking build. It does look good really, I personally enjoyed its build and design language.
On the HTC Desire 828 we get a 5.5 inches capacitive touchscreen of 67.0% screen-to-body ratio and 1080 x 1920 pixels (~401 ppi pixel density) resolution. Okay so maybe after seeing the new and latest displays you might think this one as a bad. That however is not the case. For a 2015 smartphone this phone has a display better than what some smartphones offer in 2017. I agree it is an old tech panel, and I will not say old is gold but an honest reviewer will agree that still the colors and brightness you get with the Desire 828’s display is way above average, probably came earlier than its time. I have no grievances with it at all. In fact, I consider it a good display regardless of whatever. And it also supports multi touch and 16 million colors.
Here is the strong hold of the HTC desire 828. I was amazed by the camera performance on board here. A 13 MP with aperture f/2.0 primary camera 28mm with autofocus, optical image stabilization (so your photos and videos don’t come out shaky hence blurry) and an LED flash. Then a 4 MP, f/2.0, 27mm, 1/3″ sensor size, 2µm pixel size selfie camera. I was more impressed by the primary shooter that gives clear shots and images. The pixel count on the selfie camera should not fool you though. It also is of decent quality. Video recording stands at 1080p@30fps with the HTC Desire 830.
Software features like geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, HDR are also included here. This camera performance is so not 2015, it belongs to todays’ era.
Performance and memory
It comes with a Mediatek MT6753 chipset, Octa-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and Mali-T720MP3 ensures graphics performance and runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop) with HTC Sense UI v6.0. Internal memory is 16 GB + 2 GB RAM which can be expanded up to 256 GB (SD card dedicated slot). I have to say this is a very impressive performance on this phone. It runs smoothly as you wouldn’t expect. Wouldn’t yes! And the boost of RAM just makes this phone snappy and gives a satisfying experience.
Its non-removable Li-Ion 2800 mAh battery should see you last a whole day or even two depending on your usage.
Connectivity and network
There is support for Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS (depending on your market), FM Radio and microUSB 2.0.
Network: Network: Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by). GSM / HSPA / LTE.
The loudspeaker output is great with its stereo speakers. There is also support for Vibration; MP3, WAV ringtones alert types and there is active noise cancellation with dedicated mic.
I wholly recommend HTC Desire 828. It is a phone that surely came before its time and I expect it to hold up for the next many years. I have to say, it feels (to me) like the phone HTC gave all their heart in making.
