This is a high end cellular device. I am quite interested to see what more this smartphone has to offer, hence the reason for this review. Let us now do a full review of it below.
Design and build
To begin with, Nokia 7 measures 141.2 x 71.5 x 7.9 mm and weighs just about 170 grams. Its front and/or back is made of glass and aluminum frame, 7000 series of aluminum frames. On the back there is the centrally placed primary camera with an LED flash right below it and the fingerprint scanner as well. That is pretty much what you see on the back. Facing you is its 5.2 inches display panel with a clean bottom bezels and a top bezel housing the selfie camera, the call speaker, sensors (light I presume) and NOKIA branding on the top right corner. The design of this phone is quite simple and clean. NOKIA likes to keep it simple with its design. Simple is good if you ask me. Its body endures IP54 certified splash resistance. Now, folks splash and water resistance are two very different things – do not attempt any curious experiments with the Nokia 7. You’re welcome!
Display and camera
A 5.2 inches IPS LCD capacitive touch screen is what we get with the Nokia 7. It is a very descent display with great viewing angles and color punch. It comes with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (424 ppi pixel density). This is a very sharp display fam. 424 ppi on a 5.2 inch screen is a super sharp display it can cut. And yes, there is Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection to ensure screen durability. Screen to body ratio is 74%.
I’m thinking the camera of the Nokia 7 could be its main selling point. I mean a 16MP primary camera with phase detection autofocus, Carl Zeiss optics, dual LED (dual tone) flash, features like geo tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, HDR and many more. What else could one think? I am just speculating though since there is more that goes with the Nokia 7 besides its very impressive primary camera.
The other (secondary camera) is a 5MP shooter with autofocus while video recording stands at 2160p@30fps. I’d say 7½ out of 10 for camera performance on the Nokia 7 if asked. It is respectable score given the mediocre picture performance on smartphones lately.
Performance and memory
I was very excited to hear Nokia 7 will be receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update. I like when my smartphone is up to date I’m sure I am not the only one. It ships with Android Nougat still. With its Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset, Octa core 2.2 GHz CPU and Adreno 506 GPU, you get a great experience. I assure you platform performance satisfaction with the Nokia 7.
Two versions of the Nokia 7.
- 64GB + 6GB RAM
- 64GB + 4GB RAM
Whichever version you settle for, performance still remains top notch. You can expand the internal memory up to 256 GB using and SD card in the event you need more space which 9/10 will be unlikely.
