HTC U11 Life
So, there was HTC U11 somewhere in the course of 2017. Then came the HTC U11+ in December of that same year. Let us understand one thing, neither of these phones have pocket change prices. They are both quite pricy (and worth their price) and expensive. But HTC understands this far much better than we all do. And it is for this very reason the company made an alternative HTC U smartphone in the HTC U11 Life. It is a lite version of the two, but HTC won’t call it ‘lite’ like all other smartphone companies do. Why not breathe in more life by giving it a livelier name? This article is about the above mentioned smartphone. It is a budget mid ranger alternative for them whom uncalled for constrains bar from affording the HTC U11 and HTC U11+ flagships. Let us take a look at its main features before we do its in depth analysis.
5.2 inches Super LCD display
1080 x 1920 pixels resolution
Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection
16MP primary camera, phase detection autofocus, LED flash
16MP front facing camera, 1080p, HDR, Panorama
2160p@30fps video recording
Android 8.0 Oreo
Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset
Octa-core 2.2 GHz Cortex A53
Adreno 508 GPU
64GB + 4GB RAM or 32GB + 3GB RAM
USB Type C 1.0 reversible connector
Front mounted fingerprint scanner
2600mAH battery (non removable)
IP67 certified- water and dust resistant.
*Choice of three colors: translucent blue, ceramic black and amazing silver
From the above listed features, we can clearly understand why HTC does not brand this phone a ‘lite version.’ It is nowhere close to lite. This, is a phone on its own, some high end ‘non-lite’ features and very impressive benchmark. It even borrows some features form the U11 and U11+ like 2160p@30fps video recording. I am already impressed by it. So far so good, and I bet it will hold up all the way.
Design and build
But for a few adjustments, the design of this and other U11 smartphones is the same. On the front part we see the top bezel housing the sensors, call speaker and fingerprint scanner, there is that 5.2 inch display panel, and then there is the bottom bezel that has a physical home button (and fingerprint scanner) with back and recent touch keys to its left, and right. The back is finished cleanly and kept simple with the primary camera centrally placed and HTC branding. That LED flash mentioned on the list of features sits to the right side of the camera.
Its build is plastic, weighs about 142 grams and has a 8.1mm thickness. This is the first IP67 certified smartphone with a plastic body I am doing a review of. Never have I seen another, never have I heard of another. A compact phone it is, comfortable to use single handedly and has some great looks to go with it as well.
Display and camera
Its Super LCD capacitive touch screen is a very impressive display panel. It has a 68.6% screen to body ratio and 16:9 aspect ratio. I love that the display covers about 75cm2 of the front of this phone. That’s quite a display estate. There is support for multi touch and 16M colors. And to ensure your screen’s durability, HTC slaps on Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for this purpose. I Love how well colors are represented on this display and how ample and rich it is generally.
We get two cameras here. The primary 16MP shooter and yet another 16MP front facing one. Camera features availed here include geo tagging of course, face detection (autofocus), HDR and panorama modes. Both are super impressive at their job. I mostly love the selfie shooter, you get some good looking selfies with it.
Video recording stands at 2160p@30fps.
Performance and memory
It comes running on Android 8.0 Oreo with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset, an Octa-core 2.2 GHz Cortex A53 and an Adreno 508 GPU. Internal memory is either 64GB + 4GB RAM or 32GB + 3GB RAM. This is an above average mark for a smartphone of this caliber. I mean, it has just crossed that bridge between where it should rank and landed on the other side, where the grass is greener. Be rest assured platform performance of this smartphone will give you no reason whatsoever to be disappointed.
Its battery is of 2600mAh capacity. This should last you a whole day till next charge is required.
I fancy the HTC U11 life much. It is a big gift in a compact package. Strongly consider buying it in case you want a pocket friendly high end smartphone.
