This is a mid-range smart phone by all means. It does have some very strong characters and features I have to admit, some even from high end flagship devices. But that is another story. Below are my thoughts of Huawei Honor 10.
Design and build
Some reviewers refer to Huawei Honor 10 as the 4G phablet, like that’s all it is. A phablet it is yes, measuring 149.6 x 71.2 x 7.7 mm and weighing just about 153 grams. Really these dimensions don’t seem so large. I mean most smart phones measure just around that. It is the display of this phone that qualifies it as a phablet device.
A large and tall 5.84 inches display panel on the face of this phone right above a bottom bezel just thick enough to accommodate a front facing physical fingerprint scanner while the top has a notch in the middle that houses Selfie camera, sensors and a call speaker I believe. That is it for the front. It has been kept relatively clean as the back which comes with a clean glass finish and touch. I have to mention the frames here are all aluminum metal.
There is no plastic on the build of Huawei Honor 10. I dig the looks of this phone I really do. It is a beauty. How light bounces off the back of this phone is yet another story.
Display and camera
Huawei still rocks IPS LCD capacitive touch screen on Honor smart phones. It is a decent display type. Not the best in the market but good. And considering it comes with a 5.8 inches display estate there really will be no reason to complain about it. The resolution here is 1080 x 2280 pixels, 19:9 ratio (~432 ppi density).
I love its high ppi density allows for smaller pixels which definitely give sharp images and display in general. Although of unspecified version, there is Corning Gorilla Glass protection for and on this display to ensure its durability. I love the end to end (Width) display of this phone and how well Huawei has managed the front part of Honor 10. Not to worry, it does have support for 16M colors and multi touch functionality.
We have three cameras here. Surprise? No not really this has become the order of the day. I personally wouldn’t forgive Huawei if they only included two, that even before considering Honor 10’s price point. Three cameras are a must. So yes the primary camera is a dual shooter with two lenses one 16MP and the other 24MP.
The 24MP lens shoots in black and white while the 16MP one does usual colored pictured. I love them both, quite crisp and clinical at their duty. The same I would also say for the whooping 24 MP Selfie camera. Look, at even at 16MP, you should already know what to expect here. Huawei Mate 10 confidently boasts good camera performance, I say an 8 out of 10. Video recording for the primary camera is 2160p@30fps and 1080p@30fps for the front facing one. There is an LED flash at the back and panorama has been featured here too.
Performance and memory
This phone runs on Android 8.1 (Oreo) straight out of its packaging. There is no mention of a possible update when the time comes but we choose to remain optimistic. With Huawei’s own Hisilicon Kirin 970 chipset, this phone is powered by an Octa-core (4×2.4 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53) and a Mali-G72 MP12. This is nothing short of greatness in the platform department.
Regretfully there is no support for memory expansion using and SD card here. But you still get a lot of space with either the 64GB + 4GB or 128GB + 6 GB RAM or 8 GB RAM for GT version. I hope this makes up for that SD card slot. There is still cloud storage anyway so.
The battery here is a Non-removable Li-Po 3400 mAh battery. That’s an okay capacity for a phablet smart phone of this nature. One thing I love about it is that it has Fast battery charging which gives you 50% charge in just 24 min (5V/4.5A), now that’s impressive. With it you will get up to a whole day of usage if you are a moderate user. Heavy users may need to recharge somewhere along the evening.
