The Huawei Mate 10 Lite is powered by 1.7GHz octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 659 processor and it comes with 4GB of RAM. The phone packs 64GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Huawei Mate 10 Lite packs a 16-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 13-megapixel front shooter for selfies.
The Huawei Mate 10 Lite runs Android 7.0 and is powered by a 3340mAh non removable battery. It measures 156.20 x 75.00 x 7.50 (height x width x thickness) and weigh 164.00 grams.
Huawei Mate 10 Lite
While doing an article for Huawei Mate 10 (check it out www.phoneplacekenya.com) I did mention besides it, there us Huawei Mate 10 Pro (the ‘superlative’ version) and Huawei Mate 10 (the standard version). This now is an article about the lite version of the three October 2017 Huawei Mate versions. Lite implies a lot of things except an inferior version of a smartphone like most people tend to imagine. Below are the main features of the Huawei Mate 10 Lite:
5.9 inches display panel
Front glass and aluminum body
1080 x 2160 pixels (409 ppi pixel density) resolution
Android Nougat 7.0
HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset
Octa core (4 x 2.36GHz Cortex A53 & 4 x 1.7 GHz Cortex A53) CPU
Mali T830 MP2 GPU
64GB expandable internal memory
Dual 16MP + 2MP primary camera
Dual 13MP + 2MP secondary camera
Video recording [email protected]
Rear mounted fingerprint scanner
Non removable 3340mAh battery
I am already excited at what I see here. Below is a detailed review of the above listed key features of the Huawei Mate 10 Lite.
Design and build
The light version of the Huawei Mate 10 has a slightly different look and design from its ‘bigger brothers.’ On the back of this phone is a centrally placed dual camera (vertical orientation with flash on top) and rear mounted fingerprint scanner below them. The volume rocker and power button are on the same side of this smartphone. Top and bottom bezels of this 156.2 mm tall smartphone are reduced ensuring a 76.5 screen to body ratio. The top bezel has the camera, call speaker and selfie camera while the bottom one had HUAWEI branding. This is a phone with a simple and clean design, build and finish. Had Huawei decided to make just this phone instead if all three versions and name it Mate 10, I’d dig that vibe for sure. It has a premium look the Huawei Mate 10 Lite. Its glass and aluminum build see it weigh about 164 grams.
Display and camera
The screen size on the lite version of the Mate 10 line has been kept constant on the lite version. One would expect a reduced size, I did. Yes so it is still a 5.9 inch IPS LCD capacitive touch screen with 16M colors and multi touch. It is the pixel count that has been reduced here. A 1080 x 2160 pixels (409 ppi density) resolution is the count this display offers. It is an impressive display this one with good viewing angles and brightness light enough to view even in outdoor conditions.
Now before I say much, I kept wondering (still do) why Huawei decided to go with dual cameras for both primary and secondary cameras and include a 2MP second camera, and for both! I mean come on, 2MP really, is it necessary even? But no big deal, maybe Huawei’s camera guys (LEICA) understand best. No worries though since the camera(s) performance is still impressive in the Huawei Mate Lite. I’d say 7 out of 10 for both the 16MP + 2MP primary camera and 13MP + 2MP selfie shooter. Video recording stands at [email protected] and just to mention some camera features on boars: geo tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, panorama and HDR. The primary camera has an LED.
Performance and memory
I have grievances with this phone running on Android Nougat 7.0. Okay of it can be updated to Oreo 8.0 but I still insist it would have been a good thing to ship the Mate 10 lite running on the latest version of android, since almost all smartphones are doing that now and since its late 2017. Away from that though, it has a HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset, an Octa core (4 x 2.36GHz Cortex A53 & 4 x 1.7 GHz Cortex A53) CPU and Mali T830 MP2 GPU.
Internal memory is 64GB + 4GB RAM and can be expanded to 256GB using an SD Card (there is a dedicated slot for this function so you will have Dual SIM and memory card at the same time, no sacrifices).
Its 3340mAh battery should last a whole day of usage until next charge.
