Huawei Mate 20 lite is available in Sapphire Blue, Black or Platinum gold. It looks to me as if this is a mid-range smartphone. A mid-range smartphone is one that is on the bridge of a budget and flagship device. Below are my thoughts about the Mate 20 lite.

Design and build

When this phone was being released in September, some said it was a teaser for the October expected releases the Huawei Mate 20 and 20 Pro. It was okay, but one would think that the later would look like this Mate 20 lite. I was surprised the 20 and 20 Pro look nothing like the Mate 20 lite. If features a completely different design language and even build.

Here we see aback with only two cameras placed in a vertical order and a fingerprint scanner right below them. There is a speaker grill besides the cameras. Front part looks somewhat like the Mate 20 Pro with a notch that houses proximity sensor, call speaker and selfie camera. Down below is a slim bottom bezel.

The left side of this phone has the call speaker and power button. Its front is made of glass while the sides are works of aluminum metal. A tall device at 158.3 x 75.3 x 7.6 mm  and weighs about 172 grams. An okay design and build really. It is a phone that does have some good looks going with and for it.

Display and camera

Display

The display panel is an LTPS IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that supports 16M colors and multi touch functionality.  A 6.3 inches, 97.4 cm2 (~81.7% screen-to-body ratio) touchscreen qualifies to be a phablet device. With its size you will most definitely enjoy user experience when interacting with your phone in whatsoever way.

I enjoy watching videos, playing games and surfing the web mostly. It comes in 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~409 ppi density) resolution. It is mostly bright this display and boasts good color presentation and punch.  I love how the display constitutes the most of the front part of the Huawei Mate 20 lite. For sure you will enjoy using this phone because of this display.

Performance and memory

Platform

I was thinking, maybe if this phone was released at the same time as the Mate 20 and 20 Pro it would run Android 9.0 (pie) instead of Android 8.1 (Oreo). But hopefully updates will be rolled out to it. Huawei’s very own Hisilicon Kirin 710 (12 nm) chipset is on deck with an Octa-core (4×2.2 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4×1.7 GHz Cortex-A53) CPU and a Mali-G51 MP4 GPU.

These are the specifications that make this one a mid-ranger really. But that said it does hold up just fine with seamless performance and close to no stutter, or no stutter at all. This is also on account of its memory performance stats.

Memory

There is 64 GB of internal memory on the Huawei Mate 20 lite with an option of expansion up to 256 GB (uses SIM 2 slot) using microSD. And RAM is either 4 or 6GB here. Best believe this phone will handle tasks with ease, multitasking is a piece of cake here really as you will learn.

Battery

It comes with a Non-removable Li-Ion 3750 mAh battery this one. It is a good capacity with an endurance rating of 92 hours. It will ensure you as whole day of usage until next charge. And charging is by Fast battery charging 9V/2A 18W which is supported by the charger it comes with.

Pros Cons
  • Great build
  • Impressive cameras
  • Okay platform performance
  • Large display estate
  • Good battery life
  • Latest software updates not installed
  • Rather okay display

Huawei Mate 20 lite is one smartphone I confidently recommend to persons on a fairly tight budget looking to buy a great smartphone. It is available in colors Sapphire Blue, Black or Platinum gold, buy yours today.
