Design and build

So while talking about the design and build of this phone there are a few must note points that must be made. First, and this will not skip any eye is the dual primary camera setup on the back of this phone. It is placed on the top right corner and does add to the beauty of the Huawei P Smart. It has smoothly rounded corners and slightly curved edges that allow for it to comfortably lay or sit in the hand when held by a user. I love that this phone has a full metal build (aluminum), this allows for a durable device unlike the ones made of plastic and also has good grip as an added advantage. On the front side we see slim side bezels, HUAWEI branding in the bottom bezel while the top one houses the front facing selfie camera, the call speaker and a sensor (light sensor I presume). On the back is a rear mounted fingerprint scanner and Huawei’s logo at the bottom. Antennae lines have been artistically positioned to add on the looks of this phone.

Display and camera

I did forget to mention, this baby here is a phablet (phone + tablet) device. I say this because of its display size. A 5.65 inches display is what you get on the Huawei P Smart. I personally fancy phones with big screens, say 5.9 inches at most. It is an IPS LCD capacitive touch screen that supports 16M colors and multi touch.  Other notable display mentions include its 76.1% screen to body ratio and 1080 x 2160 pixels (427 ppi pixel density- this is quite sharp) resolution. Images, pictures, and just everything on this display is very well represented, and it is also good to note that sunlight visibility is top notch on the P Smart. It is a display you will very much enjoy interacting with, regardless of what you enjoy doing most on your phone. Gamers, browsers and video fans will be greatly favored here.

Okay so I’ll begin with the primary camera. And it is my calling to be honest about one feature here. The second primary camera.  As we probably know by now, the Huawei P Smart comes with a dual primary camera. That’s really great, and most of us appreciate such an addition on a phone of this caliber. But her, why a 2MP camera? I was just wondering. Truth is, most of the shooting work is performed by the 13MP lens and not the 2MP one which handles ‘support’ functionalities like autofocus and color profiling etc etc. But whatever, the images you get are crisp and neat, that’s what matters most. You also get the same quality with the 8MP selfie camera shooter.

Video recording stands at 1080p@30fps. On a scale of 1-10 I’d say camera performance on the Huawei P Smart is 7- I respect that.

Performance and memory

Huawei P Smart comes running on Android Oreo 8.0 OS, has a HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset, an Octa-core (4 x 2.36 GHz Cortex A53 & 4 x 1.7 GHz Cortex A53) CPU and a Mali T830 MP2 GPU.

You get to choose between a 64 GB + 4 GB RAM or 32 GB + 3 GB RAM. That is internal memory (ROM) and Random Memory (RAM) respectively

It works seamlessly this phone, doesn’t unnecessarily hang and performs multi tasking just fine.

Its 3000mAh battery has an endurance rating of 73 hours. It will see you through a whole day of mixed usage.
