Huawei P20 Pro

I would like to think of the Huawei P20 Pro as the bigger brother of the P20. That’s because it is bigger and it most definitely is better. It was announced and released in April 2018 as the first high end smartphone on 2018 by Huawei. Keeping in mind that Huawei’s P line is a flagship line. This article is an on paper review of the Huawei P20 Pro. But first we shall take a quick look at its main, key and noteable features. Get the latest Huawei P50 Pro at our shop.

Agree with me that this beast of a phone has quite a lot going for it. I believe the one feature that catches attention the most is its primary camera(s) which we shall take an in depth look at later on in this review. Let us dig in.

Design and build

I will start by noting that P20+ and the P20 look everything alike. The only way you can tell ne from the other is probably because of size and that extra 3rd camera on the back of the P20+. We get an almost bezel less smartphone here with the display lying on about 94cm2 of the face of the Huawei P20+. There is only room for the selfie camera and sensors on top and a physical home cum fingerprint scanner on the bottom bezel. In fact, its top bezel is almost most there. On the back is a vertically placed dual camera setup, with a third camera below it and an LED flash yet again below them. They are all on the top right corner of the back while the bottom right corner has HUAWEI branding which is also vertically placed. Its corners are smooth and edges have a seamless finish.

I love that this phone’s build allows for it to be water and dust resistant. That is this phone is water and dust resistant.  It weighs about 180 grams and has a 7.8mm thickness.

Display and camera

Display

A wowing display is what you get with its large estate 6.1 inches AMOLED capacitive touch screen. And for them who know, AMOLED is best known for its reputation. Crisp and sharp display here with a 1080 x 2240 pixels resolution of 408 ppi density. I mean- what more can you ask for? It has an 82% screen to body ratio and covers about 94% of the face of the HUAWEI P20+.

Camera

I am tempted to say, cameras!

This is the first smartphone (which I know of) that comes with a triple camera set up for the main camera(s).  The first and second being 40MP and 20MP respectively. Now the 40MP shooter has Optical Image Stabilization, OIS while the 20MP lens shoots images in Black and White, B&W. The thirds shooter kicks in at 8MP. All these lenses are LEICA made and have 3x optical zoom, phase detection autofocus, laser autofocus and an LED flash as well. Video recording stands at 4K which is 2160p@30fps.

Its front facing camera, best known as a selfie camera is yet another impressive 24MP shooter.

I think the main focus of this phone was its camera performance, which I have to confirm that they nailed.

Performance and memory

Platform

It comes running Android Oreo 8.1, has a HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset an Octa core (4 x 2.4 GHz Cortex A73 & 4 x 1.8 GHz Cortex A53) CPU and a Mali G72 MP12 GPU. These are high end specs on and off paper. But hey, what else would you expect on a Huawei P smartphone? Nothing but the best, features right from the top draw. Huawei P20+ is a beast, for lack of a better word.

Storage

Although there is no support for expanding its `128GB internal memory, you can always use cloud services which are readily available. That being said, it is a noble thing to note that 128GB is quite a large storage for most people to fill. That aside, it runs on 6GB of RAM. One word, AMAZING.

Battery

4000mAH battery capacity does not drain quick. And should you feel it does, I would be glad to report that there is support for quick battery charging with the Huawei P20+. You get 58% of charge (from 0) in just 30 minutes.

Now, this is a super smartphone, a high end and flagship by Huawei. Expect a high price tag here. But my assurance is this, the price is very much worth it. Buy yours today at www.phoneplacekenya.com. It comes with the choice twilight, black, midnight blue and pink gold colors- have your choice.
