Huawei P40 Lite price in Kenya is around 32,500 shillings. Here are some of its features – A 6.4 “Full HD + display, a Kirin 810 chipset, 128+6GB RAM, 16MP selfie, Quad 48MP primary camera and a 4,200 mAh battery. Huawei P40 lite is available in Kenya in three color options namely Crush Green, Midnight Black and Sakura Pink. It is a rebrand of Nova 6 SE which was released in December 2019. Here is our highlight review.
Huawei P40 Lite unboxing
In this section we tell you all the niceties you will find packed in the box the P40 lite comes with. You will first see the phone itself when you unpack. Then underneath it you will find a 40W charging brick. There is a modified USB-C cable as well and a Huawei also includes a pair of earphones. Again you will get this phone in green, black or pink. These three are the only color options available.
Design and Build
Huawei P40 lite is one of the best looking, beautiful smartphones available in the market this day. The Sakura Pink version is our personal favorite. We must say Huawei has done an impeccable job with the design, and even the build of the P40 lite. It is a compact smartphone alright but it does have some thickness to it. Here are its dimensions 159.2 x 76.3 x 8.7 mm. And it weighs about 183 grams. This thickness we can forgive because it was necessary it be that way if at all the big 4,200 mAh battery of Huawei P40 Lite was to fit. We shall talk about the battery later on in this review.
Although this phone has plastic build, you will appreciate how well and how well Huawei has implemented colors. Its gradients have gentle color balance and it is this gentleness that makes it seem so graceful. And yes it does look everything like Nova 6 SE because the two are but one and the same phone. On the back panel you will see a well implemented quad camera setup. I call on iPhone to borrow from this design with the iPhone 12’s camera arrangement. You won’t also miss Huawei branding towards the bottom on the back panel.
Let me say that the 6.4″ display on Huawei P40 Lite is simply gorgeous. First consider its size, then the display type, then that it has an in-display notch and finally how the back panel meets the display. Let me talk about these and then rest my comments. I find that these four basically sums up all you need to know about the screen under observation – pun intended (if at all there be any). It is the in-display notch that will draw many a people to loving this phone and wanting to buy it. Ever since Nova 5T the in-display cutout is fast becoming a trend Huawei is strongly picking up. It has these two advantages. It adds to the looks of the phone and it creates room for a larger screen-to-body ratio.
The beautiful looking back panel of Huawei P40 Lite is curved towards the edges and nicely meets the flat display. This generally makes the phone easy to manage single handedly. It also gives the phone a modern looking touch and design. This flat display I’m telling you about is an LTPS IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. You will love that it has a high 1080 x 2310 pixels resolution even though Huawei does not reveal details of its maker. But we hope, and trust that this glass is a durable one.
Software and performance
Huawei offers its new Mobile Services complete with it’s AppGallery with the P40 Lite after it was stripped of all Google services and has no access to the Play Store. I think that should sum up any related questions on whether or not this phone has Google services or Android. Huawei P40 lite does not come with Google services but it it powered by Android 10 Oreo with the new EMUI 10. It also comes with a HiSilicon Kirin 810 (7 nm) chipset under the hood with an Octa-core (2×2.27 GHz Cortex-A76 & 6×1.88 GHz Cortex-A55) CPU and a decent Mali-G52 MP6 GPU. Huawei P40 Lite has 128GB of expandable UFS 2.1 internal storage and a generous 6GB RAM.
48MP Quad Camera
This also is another reason why you should buy Huawei P40 Lite. Because it has a Powerful Quad primary camera. These four are a 48MP wide, 8MP ultra wide, 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensor. This camera module looks very promising. You may take comfort in the fact that its image capturing capabilities is what makes me refer to it as a powerful camera. But when it comes to video you might hate to learn that it only shoots up to 1080p@30fps. Why Huawei thought this a wise move I do not know and cannot make out. The main camera uses a 48MP by Sony It has a quad-bayer array for pixel binning that produces images in 12MP resolution. Images from the 2MP macro camera look really nice and so do those from the 8MP ultra wide shooter.
Huawei P40 Lite has a 16MP f/2.0 selfie camera that comes with fixed focus. I think this one gets our vote for the best of all five cameras this phone has. Yes, Huawei P40 has five cameras, each doing the best it can at its assignments. This selfie camera can record videos in 1080p@30fps which is the same quality as with the main camera. Its features include selfie portrait, low-light selfie and night Mode selfie. A decent in-display front facing camera it is.
Huawei P40 lite Battery
Over the years our quarrel with Huawei has been over the battery capacity it includes with its phones. This even in the top tier section. But this time the Chinese manufacturer left nothing to chance. We see a non-removable Li-Po 4200 mAh battery on Huawei P40 Lite which is a very respectable capacity. And Huawei advertises that its fast charging 40W will get it charge up to 70% in about 30 minutes. Learn more about this phone here.
