Huawei P9 Plus
On its line, Huawei added two smartphones. Huawei P9 check it out https://phoneplacekenya.com/product/huawei-p9/ and Huawei P9 Plus which is the subject of this overview. I would love to believe ‘Plus’ on Huawei P9 Plus suggests an improvement over the P9. But one way to find out, let us take a look at what it has to offer.
Design and build
Both phones feature the same look everything. But for the purpose of this review, Huawei P9 Plus has an all metal unibody design, all round every bit of it. On the back of it is a fingerprint scanner with HUAWEI branding at the bottom. The dual primary camera has a very interesting set up. We see them (them because we have two cameras) enclosed in n horizontal bar strip that also houses the LED flash and LEICA branding. So LEICA and Huawei partnered to make the camera on this phone. The overall back finish of this phone is different and does look appealing. Then the face of the phone has a 5.5 inch display panel, an earpiece, a selfie camera and sensor on the top bezel then Huawei branding on the bottom one. It has a good finish and the phone does look premium.
We get a 5.5 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen panel on the Huawei P9 Plus. It has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (401 ppi pixel density) and a 72.7% screen t body ratio. I have to say I was impressed by the display on this phone. You get some good colors and brightness here. The Super AMOLED screen does a very god job with the display on the P9 Plus. I am happy to see Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on board. And Huawei also adds 3D Touch display. There is support for multi-touch for those who use this feature a lot.
I would like to believe that Huawei P9 Plus’s main selling point is its camera since it cooperated with LEICA to make the dual camera. On the official video and even website of this phone the main focus is the camera. So what do we get here? A dual 12MP, f/2.2 shooter that does get the job done perfectly well. The best thing about this camera is that its images look natural and sharp. It features geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, panorama and HDR modes.
The selfie camera is an 8MP shooter, f2.4, 1080p that does give good selfies too. Selfie lovers this is the selfie camera you will want to use all the time for your photos.
The camera here is what the company promised. Huawei did deliver a quality camera and those in love with photography will fall in love with the Huawei P9 Plus.
Performance and memory
On its internal memory is 64GB and 4GB of RAM. The memory can still be expanded up to 256 GB using an SD car.
Huawei P9 Plus comes with Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 955 very powerful chipset, an Octa-core (4×2.5 GHz Cortex-A72 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53) CPU and Mali-T880 MP4 GPU for the good graphics you get on the phone. I have to say this phone runs so smoothly and the experience you get with it is amazing. You will hardly see or realize any lag here. Good news is, the Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) it comes with is upgradable to 7.0 (Nougat).
Huawei P9 Plus has a 3400 mAh sealed battery. It is a good capacity for full day usage and the bonus of quick charging will come in handy when you are low on charge and need some juice real quick.
Connectivity and network
There is support for Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC (EVA-L09 only) and there is a Type-C 1.0 reversible connector.
Network: Single SIM (Nano-SIM) or Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by). GSM, HSPA and LTE.
The speaker of the Huawei P9 is a bottom firing one. It is a pretty good one, respectable. But the best of sound you will get with headphones via the 3.5mm jack that gives 24-bit/192kHz audio.
There also is a dedicated mic for noise cancellation.
Huawei P9 Plus is very solid phone. It nails display, camera and battery feature besides being a contestant in the award of good looking smartphones of the year. I do recommend it.
