Yes, we will be seeing more of Nokia once again in the smartphone network. Nokia made its return to the market with the Nokia 6, and now following it is the Nokia 5. This smartphone was announced in February 2017 and its official specs and features are out for those who want to know what to expect with it. This is an overview of these features and hopefully a platform to see improvements Nokia is bringing with this smartphone. Let us check it out.
Design and build
I still remember the design of the Nokia 6. How it sat very comfortably in the hand and just how beautiful it looked real time than on paper. I expect the same with the Nokia 5. Looking at them side to side, Nokia decided to maintain the build of the phone as it made very little changes to the design. It has a full metal design the Nokia 5.
I see a vertical placement for the primary camera and LED flash with NOKIA branding (also vertical) right below them. On the front is a physical home button cum fingerprint scanner with the back and recent keys touch sensitive and light. Above it is the 5.2 inches display panel. The top bezel has the selfie camera, a sensor (light I presume), a call speaker and NOKIA branding on the top left corner.
Its curvy edges add to its looks and I bet makes it very comfortable to hold. It does look beautiful on paper and we should expect just the same when this smartphone finally comes out in July 2017. It measures 149.7 mm x 72.5 mm x 8 mm.
An IPS LCD capacitive touch screen that supports 16 million colors and multi touch is what it comes with. It is 5.2 inches panel with 69 percent screen to body ratio and has a 720 x 1280 pixels (282 ppi pixel density) resolution. From the product blueprints the display does seem nice and soft. It will have better viewing angles than its predecessor and of course will be very visible in whatever lighting conditions. It was a good move to include corning gorilla glass protection on this display. At least there won’t be much worry of easy scratch or cracks.
There is a 13 MP primary camera with f/2.0, phase detection and autofocus. It comes with a dual LED flash right below it. This camera features a 1/3” sensor size, 1.12 um pixel size, geo tagging, touch focus, face detection and HDR. It also shoots video up to 1080p@30fps quality. It is a very good camera (should be) and just like its predecessor will give crisp images. The front facing camera for selfie lovers is a 8MP, f/2.0 shooter. Decent pixel count if you ask me and decent selfies it should take.
Performance and memory
This smartphone comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset, an octa-core 1.4 GHz cortex A-53 CPU and an Adreno 505 GPU. Mid-range specs? Yes! So this smartphone is a mid-ranger. Not that it is a bad thing so to say. These are specs good enough to run the device seamless.
Given that it comes with 2GB of RAM, with these features it should run without lag and should handle multitasking with a breeze. It comes with 16GB of internal memory which can be expanded up to 256 GB using an SD card. It is a good thing, and Nokia knows best to include the latest software update on its latest device. The Nokia 5 comes running on Android Nougat 7.1.1.
It comes with a sealed 300mAh battery. I bet this should last more than a day before next charge. And of course that depends all on your usage. Heavy users should get up to a full day of usage.
Connectivity and network
There is support for WLAN, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC, FM Radio and it has a microUSB 2.0 (USB On The Go). Network: Single SIM or Dual SIM. 2G, 3G and 4G. Sound: loudspeaker and 3.5 mm jack with active noise cancellation with a dedicated mic.
Buy the new Nokia 5 online. It is a very solid mid-range device that offers more for a fair price. It comes in four colors- blue, silver, black and copper.
