From my quick assessment, this is not an ordinary smartphone. It does boast quite a number of strong features which I will talk about in detail or brief in this article.

Design and build

I will begin with its dimensions which are 155.5 x 75.3 x 8.8 mm tall, wide and thick respectively. It weighs about 180 grams thanks to its plastic build. I would have fancied a aluminum metal build here though. And most will agree with me as well. The front is made of corning gorilla glass (for protection) of unspecified version. I’d guess 3 or 4.

I have honestly never understood why smartphone companies choose not to specify the version of gorilla glass. Anyways, whichever it is, it is here and it most definitely will ensure your screen’s durability. Looks-wise this phone is somewhere. I think the design language of the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 speaks fluently. The front has a long notch on the top that houses the obvious selfie camera, cal speaker and sensors. While there is a bottom bezel, it has been made relatively slim to ensure that 82.2% screen to body ratio.

The back has a vertical dual camera orientation with a fingerprint scanner right below. This area has been shaded different from the color of the phone. I think black for all. At the bottom back is a Pocophone label. How Xiaomi came up with this name I also do not know. A phone of good looks I would say.

Display and camera

Display

I think the first thing you will notice about this display after boot is its MIUI 9.6 (POCO customization) on that 6.18 inches IPS LCD capacitive touch screen.  At 96.2 cm2 16M colors will shine really bright here and it is one ~82.2% screen-to-body ratio panel you will really enjoy interacting with. At 1080 x 2246 pixels (~403 ppi density) resolution it is quite sharp and bright. Good viewing angles you should expect here and as mentioned already Corning Gorilla Glass (unspecified version) protection is on board here.

Camera

This is by far the best thing about the Pocophone F1. It boasts three very impressive lenses. The first two on the back 12MP + 5MP and a whooping 20MP lens facing you. Now the second (5MP) lens on the back is a depth sensor. Look, numbers do not lie we are all familiar with this phrase, and looking at these pixel count, you probably know what to expect here.

Super cleans super neat and super sharp images, regardless of the lighting condition (for main camera) since there is that supportive Dual-LED flash. Video recording is 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30fps (gyro-EIS), 1080p@240fps and 1080p@30fps respectively. Other features like HDR and panorama are a must here. They have been included too.

Performance and memory

Platform

What is here to report? Android 8.1 (Oreo) with MIUI 9.6 (POCO customization) is what you get straight off the Pocophone packaging. We hope for an update in the event it is rolled.  Powering is a Qualcomm SDM845 Snapdragon 845 chipset, an Octa-core (4×2.8 GHz Kryo 385 Gold & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo CPU and Adreno 630 385 Silver) GPU. Top draw features? I think yes. And considering the memory performance which I will discuss next, this one is a top performer really.

Memory

There are three versions of the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 with respect to internal storage and they are 256 GB + 8 GB RAM or 64/128 GB + 6 GB RAM. I think anything above 4GB RAM is worth strong recommendations, and look what we have here, 6GB or 8GB RAM. I’ll let you decide. But it should be almost obvious the 8GB version will cost more.

A top performer we have in the Pocophone F1 I have to say I am very impressed. I expected way less than this. That is considering the price you get this phone for. Here you will be paying less for more. Note that internal storage can still be expanded using microSD, up to 256 GB (uses SIM 2 slot).

Battery

Another department Xiaomi Pocophone F1 has nailed is this. It packs a sealed within Li-Po 4000 mAh battery which test prove has an endurance rating of 92 hours. And when you run out of charge you will have Fast battery charging 9V/2A 18W (Quick Charge 3.0) to thank. It should last you a day (and a half sometimes) of mixed to moderate usage. Expect that.

Pros Cons
*very good cameras

*great performance (platform)

*good battery life

*price (get more for less)

*plastic build (not a deal breaker)

*untimely updates
