I’m already thinking to myself, ‘what a beast of a mid range smartphone this could turn out to be.’
Design and build
This phones occupies 149.9 x 70.8 x 7.7 mm of space and weighs about 160 grams. At 7.7mm it is quite slim, hence sleek and at 160g it won’t be a workout session when you pick your phone up. See, it has a glass front whereas the rest of its build is metal aluminum. I personally fancy metal smartphones, over plastic ones of course.
Back: Camera above fingerprint scanner and SAMSUNG branding right below them. There’s also that flash to the right of the camera. Antennae lines have been creatively crafted at to add to the looks of the Galaxy A6.
Front: A tall display that stretched to reduced top and bottom bezels. The top still has room enough to house selfie camera, sensors and a call speaker while the bottom has been left untouched and undisturbed.
Display and camera
It has become a routine, me always thumbing up Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen on Samsung smartphones. Well that’s because I give credit where it us due. That very same display tyoe has been used here as well. At 5.6 inches, 79.6 cm2 (~75.0% screen-to-body ratio) you get more field of view while 720 x 1480 pixels (~294 ppi density) resolution ensured it is sharp, clear and vivid. Always on display features here as well.
Primary: 16 MP (f/1.7), phase detection autofocus, LED flash, check quality
Features Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama and HDR
Video : [email protected], check quality
Secondary / selfie 16 MP (f/1.9), LED flash
Both cameras are of the same megapixel, 16 and best believe they give great results. A phone I would confidently encourage photo fans to buy without hesitation.
Performance and memory
Samsung Galaxy A6 runs on Android 8.0 (Oreo) with an Exynos 7870 Octa chipset an Octa-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and a Mali-T830 MP1 GPU. That processor does handle tasks quite well on this phone. And it is good to see Samsung include the latest software on this phone.
There is a 64 GB, 4 GB RAM A6 version and a 32 GB, 3 GB RAM one. You’ll wear the shoe that fits here. For either internal memory can be using microSD, up to 256 GB and a dedicated slot you will find for this function.
It packs a sealed Non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery which should take you through a whole day of usage.
