This is an overview of the new Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro. The J line of smartphones by Samsung has been prominent in the market with the likes of J3, J5 and J7. Over the years, since 2015 Samsung has released a new version of J5 and in 2017, the added to their line the new Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro. It comes just around the same time as the also new Galaxy J7 Pro (2017) and J7 Max, the only difference is that it is the smaller version of the J7 Pro. I am very excited to see what this smartphone has to offer in this very competitive market. And that is the purpose for this review.

Design and build

This smartphone features a familiar Samsung design. But this time Samsung added a few tweaks to the look of it. It does look like a typical Samsung smartphone, you can tell it’s a Samsung just by looking at it. The difference I noted was that the primary camera and the LED flash are vertically placed within a black area. Then we also see a new design on both the bottom and top parts of the phone. Do check links attached at the end of this review for a vivid picture. There is Samsung branding on the back of the phone. It measures 146.2 mm by 71.3 mm and is 8 mm thick and only weighs 160 grams. We see a 5.3 inches display panel on its front, a selfie camera with flash, sensor and call speaker. The bottom bezel has a physical home button which is a fingerprint scanner as well. We see two touch sensitive areas on the left and right of this smartphone. They are the back and recent keys. Its edges are smooth and corners curvy. Good looks on the Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro.

Display

The 5.3 inches display panel has a 72 percent screen to body ratio. It is a Super AMOOLED capacitive touch screen that supports 16 million colors and multi touch. We all know what to expect with Super AMOLED panels, deep dark colors, blacks are very black, great color representation and extreme viewing angles. The resolution is 720 x 1280 pixels (282 ppi pixel density). It is display I was very impressed with and I bet any person who picks this smartphone will love. If there is any part of their smartphones Samsung never goes wrong with, it is with the display.

Camera

There are two cameras here. The first is a 13MP primary camera with f/1.7, autofocus and an LED flash. It has these features, geo tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama and HSR modes. It records videos up to [email protected] quality. The selfie camera is a 13 MP shooter with f/1.9 aperture. The images of both cameras are very impressive- sharp and detailed.

Performance and memory

The Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro runs on android 7.1 Nougat. It comes with Samsung’s Exynos 7870 chipset, an octa-core 1.6 GHz Cortex A53 CPU and a Mali T830MP2 GPU to handle its graphics performance.

The global version of this smartphone comes with 16GB ROM + 2GB RAM while the Pro version has 32GB with 3GB of RAM. The internal memory can be expanded up to 256 GB using an SD card.

Battery

On board is a 3000mAh sealed battery. It is capacity enough to last 21 hours of talk time on 3G or 83 hours of music play. It is decent capacity to last you more than a day depending on your usage.

Connectivity and network

There is support for Wi-Fi 802.11, dual band, Wi-Fi direct, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS with A GPS, GLONASS, BDS, NFC, FM Radio and has micro USB 2.0.

Sound

There is support for vibration, MP3 and WAV ringtones alert types. There is the loudspeaker and the 3.5mm jack is present.

But the Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro online. It is a great phone, of its time I have to say. A mid range device with good camera performance and a solid build. I recommend the new Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro. It comes in four colors, blue, pink, gold and black.
