Samsung Galaxy Tab S3

It has been a while since Samsung produced a tablet phone. After the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, we see Samsung introducing the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 as its successor. It is now more powerful and refined as we are going to see in this overview.

Design and build

There is a lot going on with the design here so I will divide them into sections.

  1. The tablet. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 brings in the design of high end Samsung smartphones. It features a glass back just like in the S series phones and has a metal frame all around the tablet. A 9.7 inches display panel on its face, a selfie camera with flash, physical home button which also is a fingerprint scanner. The back has the primary camera, a flash and SAMSUNG branding. The build is premium and the design elegant.
  2. The stylus pen. Yes this Samsung tablet does come with a stylus pen like those on the Note series, except for it is bigger and has added functionality. It is designed to feel like a natural ball point pen while writing with it and it does feel natural writing with it. The S pen has pressure sensor level 4,096. It is a complementary piece of hardware that lets you carry out tasks like easily jotting down important reminders, events, and more with Samsung Notes. You can also use it to create images (draw) since it the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 does come with pre-installed applications for the same.
  3. Then there is support for an external keyboard which is brought separately. It is a dedicated keyboard which offers easy typing with fewer typos due to its optimized layout. Plus the keyboard plugs directly in to the Galaxy Tab S3, making connectivity an ease.

This tablet phones isn’t on you walk around it, just from its build one can easily tell it is more of a workstation before being a phone. It is a device for serious professionals.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 comes with a super AMOLED capacitive touch screen with 16M colors. It has a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels (~264 ppi pixel density) and a screen to body ration of 72.7% screen-to-body ratio, keeping in mind that the screen is a 9.7 inches display panel. The screen is good as you would expect with Super AMOLED, and with Samsung. It gives very good color presentations and almost close to real life display. Not to forget it has HDR which just makes is so vivid, and it is a bright display that can easily be seen even in very bright conditions, like outdoors in direct sunlight. This is one place Samsung never goes wrong, the display on their smartphone, and on tablets in this case.

Performance and memory

The Samsung Galaxy Tab s3 is a power horse. It comes with a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 chipset, Quad-core (2×2.15 GHz Kryo & 2×1.6 GHz Kryo) CPU and Adreno 530 GPU. Zero lag, zero stutter.

It internal memory is 32 GB and can be expanded up to 256GB with an SD card. It comes with 4GB of RAM. Tasks are smoothly carried out and multi-tasking is on another level with this tablet.

Of course there is Android Nougat on board themed with Samsung’s UI.

We get two cameras both with flash. A 13 MP primary camera with auto focus. And a secondary 5MP selfie shooter. Well considering its size it will not be your daily photography device. But still that doesn’t stop it from giving good quality shot with both cameras.

Connectivity and network

There is support for Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS  with A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, GALILEO and it comes with 3.1, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector; magnetic connector.

Network: 2G GSM, 3G HSPA and 4G LTE.

We get a sealed 6000mAH battery on the Galaxy Tab S3. Of course a big capacity because it is a big phone. It supports quick charging which is a good thing to add. Waiting for 6000mAh to get fully charged has never been quicker.

On all the four corners of this tablet are speakers. Goes without say great attention was paid to the kind of sound quality we get here. These stereo speakers are tuned by AKG/HARMAN and they give a brilliant stereo effect.

Wrap up, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is a tablet for serious professionals. Therefore, I recommend it to persons of that same category.
