Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 10.5

Here is one for the tablet lovers. Yes, Samsung not only does phones, it also tablets as well. And with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 10.5 we get an available prove. Not that Samsung hasn’t released tablet smartphones before, just that it doesn’t do so as frequently as it does with smartphones and all. Below is a list of the main features of Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 10.5. But first let me say this, this isn’t your ordinary tablet smartphone. There is so much going on for the Tab S4 that we haven’t seen on previous Galaxy tablets, not even with its immediate predecessor the Galaxy Tab S3. So yes, this is one device you may want to pay keen attention on.

Other features

Physical keyboard

Samsung Dex

These two features work hand in hand. Samsung Dex is a software that allows you to use you table as a laptop. Yes! That is right! When enabled, you connect a special keyboard by Samsung to your tablet and in vertical orientation you can use this Galaxy Tab s4 just about the same way you would use a laptop. The experience is so refreshing I can assure you that. What’s more is that you can cast your tablet display (while still in this ‘laptop mode’) to a larger display like a TV or something just to get that bigger display estate.

There is also the stylus pen which has been refined even further so as to give more functionality for Samsung Dex. I believe Dex was derived from the word Desktop. Although the keyboard and Bluetooth mouse (available too) are bought separately, they sure are a must try out. They are a great addition.

Design and build

Well design on tablet smartphones aren’t always a big deal really. I mean tablets are so big and large they just have to look neat. This tablet measures 249.3 x 164.3 x 7.1 mm and weighs about 482 grams. Look, at 7.1 mm it is slimmer than some phones (not tablets) out there in the market. And maybe its just me but, slimmer smartphones always look sleek. And that is just about the case here with the Galaxy tab S4. On the back is the primary camera with flash and SAMSUNG branding. The front features its 10.5 inches display (how it gets its name) with slim bezels all round. There is a selfie camera with sensors on the top bezel. No physical home button on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 10.5. I would have wished for water resistance here but, no! Sadly it is not IP certified, not even for splashes.

Display and camera

Display

Whatever negativity one may want to impose on the 10.5 display panel of this tablet device will be easily cancelled out by the fact that it is a SUPER AMOLED display. Hear this, nothing beats Super AMOLED. Nothing yet. It has 321.9 cm2 (~78.6% screen-to-body ratio) and 1600 x 2560 pixels, 16:10 ratio (~287 ppi density) resolution. At287 ppi it is mostly bright. This feature multi touch is very well supported and functional here.

Camera

There are two cameras here. The primary shooter is a 13MP lens with autofocus, while the selfie camera is a 8MP lens. Video recording is 4K and 1080p@30fps respectively. There is an LED flash for dim scenes. Still you get great cameras on a device you may not intend to use a daily camera driver.

Performance and memory

Platform

It runs Android 8.1 (Oreo) straight off its boxing. We hope for an upgrade in case of one.

Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835

Octa-core (4×2.35 GHz Kryo & 4×1.9 GHz Kryo) CPU and Adreno 540 GPU also constitute this tablet’s performance.

Memory

64/256 GB with 4 GB RAM. A microSD can be used to expand internal memory up to 512 GB (dedicated slot).

Battery

It has a sealed within Non-removable Li-Po 7300 mAh battery which is charged by Fast battery charging capability.

Pros Cons
Premium laptop-class performance; Long battery life; Amazingly bright, speedy display; Improved Pencil input; Stellar, booming sound; iOS 11 has a lot of promise. Smart Keyboard needs a touchpad; Lengthy recharge time, and are bought separately form the tablet hence more expense.
