Sony Xperia XZ

Over the years Sony has really stepped up its game with its flagship smartphones. This time we have the Sony Xperia XZ, a smartphone perfectly tailored for life. In the current smartphone market for a phone, especially a flagship to survive there are some features always to consider by both the buyer and the manufacturer. This overview is to see what had to offer with this addition to its flagship line.

Design and Build

The design language of Xperia phones is usually almost the same. Although this time with the Sony Xperia XZ there are some new introductions to the build of the phone. On the plat back of this phone is a metal panel with the camera on the top side. Below the camera is an LED flash. Xperia branding is at the middle back. One side is the centrally placed power button that serves also as a fingerprint scanner, the volume rocker below it (this placement will surely need some getting used to for new users) and there is Xperia’s dedicated camera button at the lower bottom which Sony always included. The face of the phone is simple. It has the earpiece sandwiched between the secondary camera and a sensor. SONY branding is on the top bezel just below the earpiece. Its edges are smoothly curved to trey avoid the box design, although still the phone does look rectangular, not that it is a bad thing really because this pone sits comfortably in the hand.

It is also good to see SONY include water and dust resistance on the Sony Xperia XZ (ip68 certified).

Display

Sony Xperia XZ comes with an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors. It is a 5.2 inch screen with a 70.9% screen to body ratio that has a1080 x 1920 pixels (424 ppi pixel density) resolution. The display on this phone is decent, it has respectable viewing angles and does get bright enough for outdoor visibility. Nothing out of the ordinary going on for it though. Color representation is good on it too.

There is Corning Gorilla Glass protection on the display of the Sony Xperia XZ.

Camera

Now Sony doesn’t just include a dedicated camera button just for the fun of it. They do because the cameras they make foe their smartphones are of good quality. This is the case for the Sony Xperia XZ. It has two cameras, a primary 23MP shooter and a secondary 13MP shooter. You can tell just by megapixel count that these cameras are as good as they can get. Low light photography is great, and when the lighting condition is good, expect even better looking photos with these cameras. I personally think SONY did a good job with then cameras hardware of this phone.

It is also good to note that there is 4K video recording support on the Sony Xperia XZ. You want a camera phone? Here is one.

Performance and Memory

I will start with memory, the Sony Xperia XZ come in two versions, 32GB or 64GB model. Both run on 3GB of RAM though. The good news is that both memories can be expanded up to 256GB using an SD card.

This phone is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 chipset, a Quad-core (2×2.15 GHz Kryo & 2×1.6 GHz Kryo) CPU with an Adreno 530 GPU for graphics. It does ship with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow which can be updated to Nougat.

Battery

The phone packs a 2700mAh battery and supports quick charging 3.0.

This is enough power to last you typical day of moderate usage without need of recharge. The battery has an endurance rating of 72 hours.

Connectivity and Network

There is support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and the phone has a 2.0, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector; USB Host. This is the first Xperia phone to have a type C usb port.

Network: Single SIM (Nano-SIM) or Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by) GSM, HSPA and LTE.

Sound

You will get some good quality sound especially on headphones or earphones with this phone. And even when not using those there are stereo speakers on board that do give good audio output as well. As always it is good to see the 3.5mm jack on this smartphone

The Sony Xperia XZ is a phone I would recommend. It nails almost every specs a flagship smartphone should and I have to say, Sony really did a god job with the XZ.
