It does seem a beast of a phone already on paper. Let’s see how true this is.

Design and build

Design

We don’t get an entirely typical Xperia smartphone design here. Well, from the front maybe but the back, the back has a few changes mostly notable when you see this smartphone. Yeah it’s does look a little unXperia like, in a good fashion though. So the dual camera on the back is almost centrally placed, and it sits right above the fingerprint scanner and lies below the EIS thingy. It is made of glass of course and so is the front which has symmetrical top and bottom bezels. The bottom with SONY branding and the top with camera, call speaker and sensors. It doesn’t have a notch or slim bezels like what we see in most smartphones of recent times. I think SONY ain’t scared of nothing. It measures 158 x 80 x 11.9 mm and weighs about 236 grams. The 3.5 mm jack is very much present here (with it 24-bit/192kHz audio). And in that same spirit, It’s speakers are stereo. The build allows for it to be water resistant IP68 certified real swimmer ? for up to 30 minutes maximum.

Display and camera

Display

Let it be known, and let it go down to whichever books records to that SONY Xperia XZ2 Premium was the first smartphone to have a 4K display. Unbelievable I know, but seeing is believing they say? You’ll see for your self. With a 3840 x 2160 pixels resolution, there can never be a display on any phones ever made / yet to have a superbly impressive display as this. Imagine how sharp the display is with 760 ppi density. Extraordinary. That’s the word. Tremendous, that’s another. Amd all this on a 5.8 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen of 73.4% screen-to-body ratio, 16:9 aspect ratio and Corning gorilla glass 5 protection. Look, how should I out this? You will not believe your eyes. Moving on.

Camera

Yet another impressive department of this phone.

Primary camera: Dual: 19 MP (f/1.8, 25mm, 1/2.3″, 1.22µm) + 12 MP B/W (f/1.6, 1/2.3″, 1.55µm), 5-axis gyro EIS, predictive phase detection and laser autofocus, LED flash

Video recording: 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30/60fps, 1080p@960fps, HDR

Selfie camera: 13 MP (f/2.0, 22mm, 1/3″, 1.12µm), 5-axis giro EIS, 1080p

*where EIS=Electronic Image Stabilization

And also to mention, it is MotionEye™ Dual Camera that is used here.

Look these should speak for themselves. Imagine viewing images snapped by any of these cameras and viewing them from your gallery on Xperia XZ2 Premium’s 4K display. So satisfying.

Performance and memory

Platform

It runs on Android 8.0 (Oreo). I believe there should be a promise for upgrade to Android 9.0 as soon as it drops. Also on deck is a Qualcomm SDM845 Snapdragon 845 chipset, an Octa-core (4×2.7 GHz Kryo 385 Gold & 4×1.7 GHz Kryo 385 Silver) CPU and an Adreno 630 GPU. Top draw performance you’ll get here. A fast and snappy phone it is.

Memory

Only the dual SIM model has room for its 64 GB internal memory expansion since the mem card is slotted into the SIM 2 slot. Runs on 6GB of RAM.

Battery

Its Non-removable Li-Ion 3540 mAh battery is a decent capacity that has Fast battery charging (Quick Charge 3.0) capability.

So far, and in my opinion this is the best smartphone (as at time of review) in the world. Anything else is just but an opinion of your own. Buy Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium. It comes with the choice of two colors Chrome Black and Chrome Silver.
