Sony, just like other manufacturers released its 2017 flagship device, the Xperia XZs which comes just six months later after its predecessor XZ. The ‘s’ on XZs suggests an upgrade, though humble but it surely is different in quite a number of ways. Now the XZs has a slogan for almost all its components starting from the camera which by the way is its main selling point, to the display, the battery life and so on. There is just a lot going on for this flagship device. Let us take a look at what it packs inside.

Build and Design

The main changes of the Sony Xperia XZs over the XZ isn’t in the outward build but on its inside. That being said, one could easily mistake the XZ and the XZs by looks. All the same, the XZs stands at 146m tall, 72mm wide and 8.1 mm thick. That height should tell it is a compact phone that’s easy to user singe handedly. It weighs 161 grams. All its buttons are on its right side including a dedicated camera one. Its camera is located at the top right side of it. It features a stylish loop design with a metal back and plastic sides and metal sides. Right to say, the phone really feels compact in the hands. I’m pretty sure I won’t be the only one who will love its design’s vibe.

Let’s not forget to mention, the XZs is IP68 certified – dust/water proof over 1.5 meter and 30 minutes.  Meaning, you don’t have to worry about accidental water spills on your phone! The Sony Xperia XZs can handle that without any harm brought to it.

It also has a Fingerprint sensor mounted on its power button which is fast in unlocking your device.

Like other high and mid-range Xperia’s, the XZs has an IPS capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors. It is a 5.2 inch display with a 1080 x 1920 pixels (424 ppi pixel density) resolution. The display is colorful, vibrant and has great viewing angles, both in directs sunlight and low 5.2 inches and a 424 ppi resolution, it does look great and sharp. Color and resolution can also be adjusted to one’s desire so you don’t have to live, or die with the factory’s default.

This display has Corning Gorilla Glass protection.

The camera on this phone is its main selling point. ‘’A camera that’s ahead of its time.’’ This is how SONY describes the 19 MP camera at the back of this phone. There is a lot going on for this camera. A detailed review on the site at the end of this review. This is a camera with a number of functionalities. It can shot videos in super slow motion (960 frames per second), has predictive image capture, and takes detailed photos even in almost impossible conditions. It also has HDR and panorama modes.

The selfie camera is a decent one too at 13 MP and takes up to 1080p.

Videography comes at 2160p@30fps, 720p@960fps, HDR with stabilization.

Both cameras are great for both video and photography. I love how SONY has delivered to its consumers with these cameras. They do match up to the specs they have on paper.

Performance and Memory

Xperia XZs has Android Nougat 7.1 straight from its package. It rocks a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 chipset, a Quad-core (2×2.15 GHz Kryo & 2×1.6 GHz Kryo) CPU and an Adreno 530 GPU. With the XZs SONY decided to go for a power house in its processing ability, ditching Mediatek chipset for Snapdragon, Octa-core CPU for Quad and Mali GPU for Adreno 530. This translates to a smooth experience with the phone and almost no lag at all.

The Sony Xperia XZs comes with 32GB or a 64GB of internal memory which still can be expanded using an SD Card up to 256GB. Both the 32 and64 versions run on 4Gigs or RAM. Multitasking has never been so seamless than this.

Connectivity and Network

Connectivity: – The XA1 supports WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11, dual band, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS with A-GPS GLONASS, NFC and a USB 2.0, type C 1.0 reversible connector and USB Host. Its type C charger allows for Quick Charge 3.0.

The XZs supports GSM / HSPA (3G) / LTE (4G) networks.

Other features

Battery: – Xperia XZs has a 2,900mAh battery. Need not say, this is an okay pack for a 5.2 inch display. This battery will see you last a full day, with an endurance of up to 73 hours.

The phone supports

Sound: – its dual front facing speakers at the top bezel give pleasant sound output.  It features a loud speaker with stereo speakers, and the good old 3.5mm jack which gives 24-bit/192kHz audio. A dedicated active noise cancellation mic is also present.

The Sony Xperia XZs is a phone you will have to love. It has great specs, compact and premium design, an awesome camera and generally ranks among the top phones (flagship) of 2017. I would confidently recommend the Xperia XZs.

It comes in three colors Black, Warm Silver and Ice Blue.
